Channel Islands

Picturesque islands known for their stunning coastal landscapes, unique blend of British and French cultures, and rich history

Just off the Normandy coast, the Channel Islands comprise of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm, and are a short hop away from Britain and mainland Europe. Their mild winters, warm summers and long hours of sunshine make them ideal year-round destinations. Jersey is the largest island, but still just 9 miles wide and 5 miles long. St. Helier, the island capital, is the centre of activity. Find museums that expertly retrace the island’s maritime and smuggling heritage, and explore the scenic woodland of Fern Valley north of St. Helier to the pristine southern beaches of St. Brelade’s Bay and St. Aubin. Guernsey, the second largest island, has a colourful history. The tapestry museum and gallery are in St. Peter Port the charming coastal capital, home of numerous other attractions and restaurants. Medieval Castle Cornet has been standing watch over the town since the 13th century, and today it hosts five museums and four formal gardens. Discover the town’s other historical sites, including Hauteville House, which was the home of Victor Hugo, and the Victorian Candie Gardens.
