Countryside, Scenic & Heritage

Get stuck in to these fabulous breaks - you won't be bored!

The British countryside offers some of the most diverse and interesting scenery in the world. Surprisingly, only about 6% of the UK is ‘built on’, which means there is a huge amount of countryside – both wild and maintained – for you to explore. At Leisuretime our countryside coach holidays take you over wild moors, through stunning valleys and to some of Britain’s prettiest and most scenic country spots at prices that are sometimes hard to believe. Throw in quaint rural villages, bustling market towns, a good choice of stately homes and, of course, those great British countryside institutions – the pub and the tearoom – and you really do have a recipe for a great holiday. And because Leisuretime offsets all of the carbon produced during your trip, you know you’ll also be doing your bit to keep our beautiful country green and very pleasant! Coach holidays in the countryside are the best way to relax and take in the views and serenity it has to offer - let Leisuretime take care of the journey and just enjoy!

Dylan Thomas' Laugharne

Thu, 6 Jun 2024

Laugharne is a hidden gem on the southwest coast in Carmarthenshire, set in a delightful location on the estuary where the River Taf flows into Carmarthen Bay. This charming town is a place where history, literature, and natural beauty converge. It offers a delightful mix of coastal tranquillity and cultural richness and is, perhaps, most famously associated with Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, who lived there from 1949 until his death in 1953. He once famously described the town as “a timeless, mild, beguiling island of a town”.

Spend a day exploring the iconic Laugharne Castle, perched on a hill overlooking the estuary, and stroll through the narrow streets that inspired Dylan Thomas's poetic imagination. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the Dylan Thomas Birthday Walk, revelling in the serene landscapes that captivated the poet himself. With its historic charm and scenic vistas, Laugharne promises a perfect day of exploration, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the unique tapestry of Welsh culture and natural splendour.

Subject to traffic and travel, we usually leave around 16:00 for the return journey home.

Glorious Kent & Call The Midwife

Fri, 7 Jun 2024

Enjoy a fantastic weekend escape to the Garden of England with a Call The Midwife tour!

If you’re a fan of the hit series and you’ve been wondering where Call the Midwife is filmed, put yourself in the picture and explore where the real drama happens with a Call the Midwife Official Location Tour, the only one of its kind in the world. Whilst the show is set in the East End of London, many of the outside scenes from the BBC series are actually filmed at The Historic Dockyard Chatham in Kent.

Walk in the footsteps of Nurse Trixie Franklin, Sister Julienne and Dr Turner. You will be guided through the Historic Dockyard by your very own costumed Midwife, armed with a photograph book and tales of their ‘sisters’, before being allowed to explore the sets, costumes and props in the all-new, exclusive gallery. Also enjoy time to discover the Historic Dockyard itself, a stunning 80 acre site with historic buildings, museum galleries and historic warships.

We also include a visit to the fabulous historic cathedral city of Canterbury which is a delight to explore, whilst the shops, pubs and tea rooms of Faversham, the oldest market town in the county, makes this a great place to wander and browse.

Your hotel base near Faversham, set in acres of parkland, is ideally located for your excursions.

An ideal choice for:
* Call The Midwife fans
* History lovers looking to gain a real insight into this historic county
